In August 2023, German steel producer Salzgitter signed a contract with the leading technology provider for an EAF Ultimate (electric arc furnace), a key component of the world’s largest green steel transformation program: the Salzgitter Low CO2 Steelmaking (Project SALCOS/trade mark) project.
Salzgitter is investing in this challenging project, aiming to convert its existing integrated steel plant to green steel production in three stages by 2033.
As part of the transformation, two direct reduction plants and three electric furnaces will be built, replacing the existing blast furnaces and converters.
OMIS is a partner in this innovative project, supporting one of the key-partners from Austria by delivering non-standard components by mid-2024.
OMIS’s direct involvement and contribution in green steel production confirms the company’s commitment to sustainability and its ability to collaborate with global leaders, regardless of distant Ostrołęka-location.
